On the feast of the Holy Name of Mary - Saturday, September 12th - St. Thomas More Church opened the doors of the St. James House to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the priory. The priests and over a hundred faithful attended the festivities.
During the celebrations, the prior, Fr. Vernoy, was presented a beautiful gift of a plaque signed by the Holy Father commemorating the silver anniversary of his ordination. Father said that between the eight priests who make the priory home, there are over 125 years in the priesthood! This year, we are honored at St. Thomas More to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Fr. Marc Vernoy, Prior, Fr. Pierre Duverger, and Fr. Greig Gonzales, newly assigned at the Priory since August 15.
“In Sanford and in all the Florida missions,” Fr. Vernoy said, “we have outgrown our churches. And for five months, we did not have a single parishioner in any of our churches die – not just from COVID, but from any cause. This is a singular blessing, a sign from Providence that God is pleased with the work of the Society in Florida.”
Among the guests were new parishioners who had discovered St. Thomas More when their churches were closed down because of the virus. Not only were they grateful to have found a church to attend Mass during the pandemic, but they were also amazed to discover Tradition and the Latin Mass. One family said that they were not sure what to expect when they came to the celebration dinner, and they were delighted to find men and women who greeted them with smiles and made them feel very welcome.
May Our Lord and Lady continue to bless the work of the Society in Florida and around the world!
