A special Prayer Card is available in our churches or on request in order to prepare for the November 3rd Election. (For orders, call the Priory: (407) 872-1007).
It is a duty of justice to pray for the authorities placed above us. Allowed by God to rule us, they received from God the right to govern us and will be judge by Him on how they led and helped the people to know, love, and serve Him.
God created man as a social animal. He also organized society hierarchically, which includes placing someone in charge of the common good. God also gave men the freedom to determine who will be the authority in charge. The form of government can differ according to local custom or the period of history; in a democracy, for instance, the ruler is designated by the vote of the people. The authority to govern is not conferred by the election, however; rather, authority to govern comes down from God to the one selected by the citizenry.
It is therefore especially important that men use their ability wisely to designate the ruler. It is also of great importance to beg God for good candidates. And it is of supreme importance to beg God to rule the hearts of the rulers and to provide us with the blessings of their wise governance.
The coming of an election certainly requires the need for prayer. As the Psalmist says: "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat-- for He grants sleep to those he loves." (Psalm 127)
Archbishop Carlo Vigano – who served as the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States from 2011 to 2016 – composed a beautiful prayer to this effect. Titled a "Prayer for a Resurgence of Christianity in America," it is the one we propose on this 2020 Prayer Card.
Clearly, no American would object to Make America Pray Again! We cannot recommend enough that you pray this prayer and pass it on to as many as possible. Be a good citizen: pass on this prayer!
