St. Thomas More Priory extended an open invitation to a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The meal was well attended and well supplied with a variety of entrees, main courses, specialty cheeses, fine wine, and deserts.
Perhaps next year guests will embellish the event by dressing in original costumes of the Spaniards and the Indians. Yes, it was fifty-six years before the Puritan Thanksgiving at Plymouth Rock that the Catholic Spaniards and the natives united in a Mass of Thanksgiving right upon the founding of St. Augustine. After Mass, they shared a Thanksgiving meal.
In keeping with the spirit of the original Catholic Thanksgiving in St. Augustine, St. Thomas More Priory celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving and shared a feast. If you plan to attend in the coming year, plan your costumes and know you are most welcome!
